Lucky Boxes

In short: every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 20:00 the Lucky Boxes are scattered through a heart-shaped maze — every chest holds silver or a Conquer Point, and some hold a Meteor, a DragonBall or even a Super Meteor. No fighting, no levels, no gear. Type /boxes to go.

When

Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 20:00 (server time), for about twenty minutes. You get a five-minute warning across the realm, and the Royal Herald in Twin City will tell you at any time how long is left until the next one. The calendar with a live countdown is on the website's events page. A GM can also open an extra hunt whenever they like.

Getting there

While a hunt is running:

  • type /boxes anywhere, or
  • speak to the Royal Herald in Twin City and take his road.

You land somewhere random in the maze — everyone is scattered, so nobody starts the run on top of the same chests.

Type /boxes again to go home, or find the Runner standing in the middle of the maze. When the hunt ends everybody is taken to Twin City — nobody is left behind.

The whole realm is told when a hunt opens, so you will not miss one while you are online.

What is in a chest

Seven chests in ten hold around 10,000 silver; the other three hold a Conquer Point. Beyond that, one chest in fifty holds a Meteor, one in a hundred a DragonBall, and one in fifteen hundred a Super Meteor — the gold one that opens a socket on its own. A chest holds at most one of those prizes.

You will know at once when you find something: a ring of fire burns around you for a few seconds — longer for a DragonBall, longer still for a Super Meteor — so everyone nearby can see who is having a good run. A DragonBall or a Super Meteor is also announced to the entire server with your name on it.

Chests all look the same. There is no golden chest to race for, so the good ones are found by covering ground, not by being the first to spot a colour.

You have to walk up to a chest to open it. Clicking one from across the screen will only tell you that it is too far — this is a hunt on foot, not a clicking contest.

The rules of the maze

There is no limit on how many chests you may open. What there is instead is a level playing field — in the maze nobody can move faster than anybody else:

  • no PK — nothing can attack you, and you cannot attack anyone;
  • no Cyclone, no flying, no transformations (the Divine Hare included). Cast them and you will be told to save it for outside; if you arrive wearing one, it comes off at the gate.
  • jumping works normally — it is the same forty paces for everyone.

Bring an empty bag slot or two. A chest will not open while your bag is full, so you never lose a prize you had no room for.

How long it lasts

A hunt runs for about twenty minutes, or until the chests run out — there is a fixed number of them for the whole event, shared by everyone who came, so it pays to start early. As long as chests remain, the maze keeps the same number of them standing: take one and another appears elsewhere. The standings are called out every few minutes, the best collector is named across the realm at the finish, and everyone is set down in Twin City.

Worth knowing

  • A level-1 character has exactly the same chances here as a level-130. This is the one event where gear and levels count for nothing at all.
  • Your pet cannot fetch chests — they are not dropped loot; you open them yourself.
  • The maze walls are there to be worked around. Watch where the crowd is not going.
