The Market: who does what

In short: The Market is where the economy's services live -- the lottery, the dice, the exp rite, the material vault, the Gem Cutter, the +N ladder.

The Market (every city's Conductress sells the trip) is an interior with no monsters and no PK -- just the people who turn your materials into something better. This guide covers the ones with no guide of their own; the rest have theirs:

  • Wuxing Oven / Cloud Saint -- the +N ladder.
  • BlacksmithLee / Artisan Cloud / Gem Cutter -- sockets and gems.
  • Eternity -- rebirth.
  • Lady Luck, the Dice King, the UnknownMan, Millionaire Lee -- below.

Lady Luck's lottery

Where: Lady Luck on the Market, on the plaza at (211,191). Cost: 150 Conquer Points a draw -- less than the CPAdmin pays you for a DragonBall. Limit: 10 draws a day per character. The count resets at midnight server time. Prizes: Meteors and gems most of the time; DragonBalls, super gems, Praying Stones and the +1/+2 PlusStones that are sold nowhere else.

Lady Luck runs the only game of pure chance on the server that pays in materials. Every draw is a single spin of her wheel: you pay, she rolls, and whatever comes up goes straight into your bag.

Drawing

  1. Talk to Lady Luck on the Market and choose Draw!.
  2. She takes 150 Conquer Points and rolls one prize.
  3. Keep a free bag slot -- with a full bag she refuses to spin, and nothing is charged.
  4. She tells you how many draws you have left today. After 10, come back tomorrow.

What the wheel pays

ChancePrize
40%Meteor
20%Refined gem (a random colour)
12%PlusStone +1
10%DragonBall
8%Super gem (a random colour)
5%PlusStone +2
3%Praying Stone (S) -- three days of Heaven Blessing
2%ToughDrill -- a socket attempt at BlacksmithLee

Ten draws cost 1,500 Conquer Points and, on average, return four Meteors and a DragonBall along with the smaller prizes. It is a gamble, not a shop: a bad day pays nothing you could not have farmed, and a good one hands you a super gem.

Why the +N stones matter

The PlusStone +1 and +2 are the lottery's real speciality. They are the minor items the Compose window eats when you push a piece of gear to +1 and +2, and no shop in the world sells them -- Lady Luck is where they come from.

The Dice King, the UnknownMan and Millionaire Lee

Two Market characters who used to just talk now have real business with you.

The Dice King — three dice, one fortune

The Dice King (Market) plays a straight dice duel for silver:

  • Pick a stake: 10,000, 100,000, or 1,000,000 silver.
  • You roll three dice, he rolls three dice. Higher total takes the pot — win and he pays you your stake on top; lose and it fills his purse.
  • Ties go to the King. He says it to your face — that's his edge. Gamble accordingly.

The UnknownMan — one good turn deserves another

A homeless old man idles on the Market. He swears off the drink every week and breaks the oath every weekend, and that weakness is worth a great deal to you:

  1. Give him 100 silver for a bowl of noodles.
  2. Then comes the thirst, and only one thing answers it: DrunkCelestial wine. The Twin City Dye Master keeps a bottle under his counter for 1,000 silver — ask him about good wine.
  3. Bring it, and the old man shows you what is inside a DragonBall: hand him 1 (2 if you are above level 99) and he grants a surge of experience worth 6000 seconds of leveling time — a fortune of levels for a young hero, a respectable boost even late.
  4. One bottle, one favour, one week. He will not do it again until Sunday comes round — and the week turns at midnight, so a favour spent on Sunday waits for the next one.

ExpBalls now work, too

Double-click an ExpBall in your bag to absorb it: each grants 600 seconds of leveling time as experience, up to 10 ExpBalls a day. (They remain the ProficiencyGod's favorite snack as well.)

Millionaire Lee — a strongbox for the heavy stuff

Meteors and DragonBalls pile up faster than bag slots, so Millionaire Lee on the Market keeps them for you. Pick "Let me use your vault" and you can:

  • Store all your Meteors or all your DragonBalls in one go — they leave your bag entirely.
  • Withdraw any number of them later.

The part worth knowing: what you take out comes back already packed. Every ten leave his strongbox as a scroll and the remainder loose, so a hundred Meteors return in ten bag slots instead of a hundred. A scroll unpacks whenever you want it to — double-click it in your bag, or ask him.

He will not part-fill a withdrawal: if your bag cannot hold the whole amount he says so and keeps the lot, rather than handing you half and leaving you to work out what happened to the rest.

He still folds and unfolds scrolls for anyone who just wants that, vault or no vault.

How our version differs

Lady Luck's lottery:

  • Classic Conquer sold lottery tickets as an item and ran the draw from your bag. Ours is a straight NPC dialog: no ticket to buy, no ticket to lose.
  • The prize table is ours, tuned so the common results are materials a player actually uses rather than junk. The daily cap of ten draws is the classic one.
  • Conquer Points are earned in play, never bought: the CPAdmin on the Market converts a DragonBall into 215 CPs, and the Guild War pays its weekly prize in them.

The Dice King, the UnknownMan and Millionaire Lee:

  • The Dice King's game is an Aurenfall original — classic CO's dice tables came much later.
  • The UnknownMan's errand follows the classic "One Good Turn Deserves Another" quest, including the doubled DragonBall price past level 99. His rest is ours: classic Conquer let him recover in twelve hours, which made a DragonBall a day into experience. Here he drinks at the weekend and works once a week.
