Your first hour in Aurenfall

You have just arrived in Twin City with a weapon in your hand and no idea where to go. This is the shortest path from there to a character that is genuinely yours.

1. You already have your gear on

The Scholar who sent you here gave you a weapon, a coat and — if you are an Archer — a quiver, and put them on for you. Open your character window and you should see them worn. If a piece is sitting in your bag instead, drag it onto the matching slot; that is all "equipping" is in this client.

Everything else you own lives in the bag. Potions are used by double-clicking them.

2. Take the daily hunt, right where you are standing

A few steps from where you landed stands the Hunt Master. He gives out the day's hunting chain: six tasks in order, each one asking for more kills than the last, each one paying experience worth far more than the killing itself.

Take the first task before you fight anything. The whole chain resets at midnight, and finishing it in Twin City is worth roughly the first thirty levels of your life — it is by far the fastest honest start on this server. See the daily hunts.

3. Fight south of the city

Walk out of the south gate. The fields there run from harmless birds up to something that will kill a careless level-20, and they are arranged so that you can simply keep walking outward as you grow. Your hunt tasks are on those same monsters.

Two things worth knowing while you fight:

  • Your skill bar can sit at 100% and not level. That is not a bug. Skills also need a character level, and the game tells you which one when you use the skill. It rises by itself the moment you get there. (Why.)
  • Fighting something well below your level pays almost nothing. The experience you earn is tied to the damage you deal, and a monster far beneath you is worth a tenth. Keep moving up.

4. Do not sell your first drops blindly

Silver is easy; the things that matter are not. Meteors, DragonBalls and PlusStones fall from anything you kill, more often the stronger it is (drop rates) — they upgrade your gear later and they are what other players actually want. Keep them.

5. When you have an hour behind you

  • Vote for the server — two lists, ten seconds, and it pays Conquer Points to your character. It is also how the next player finds us.
  • Get around — the Conductress in every city drives you to the roads out of town.
  • Chat — how to talk to everyone, to your team, and to us.
  • Learn your class's skills — your class master is in the Promotion Centre, and your first promotion is waiting at level 15.

What not to worry about yet

Rebirth, guild wars, socketing, battle power: all of it is real and all of it is far away. The first hour only asks two things of you — take the hunt from the Hunt Master, and fight things that are not beneath you.
